It is the Nuestra Senora del Pilar church, a jewel of colonial architecture dating from 1732, facing onto the public gardens of the Plaza Recoleta. In the side chapel on the left there is a fine wooden image of San Pedro de Alcantara, a work of the famous 17th century Spanish sculptor Alonso Cano.
