That someone told you about the Centro Cultural Recoleta, which is specialized in contemporary local art. If you want to enter, expect to pay about 1 $, it's open from Tuesday to Friday between 2 pm to 9 pm, Saturday, Sunday. during holidays it's open between 10 am and 9 pm.
